Homework

At South Stanley Infant & Nursery School, we value the contribution that Parents can make to their child’s education and as such, we actively encourage Parents to support their children with completion of homework activities.

Each year group gives weekly homework mathematics activities linked to the concepts that have been covered during the week. Spellings and/or sounds are also given to learn. Reading books are expected to be regularly changed. Staff monitor the completion and return of reading books and other homework sent out and will send reminders to anyone requiring a reminder. A drop in homework club is available from 3.15pm every Monday with Mrs Collier (Class 5) for anyone experiencing difficulties in completion of homework.

Please see below for an overview of homework expectations for each year group:

Reception

Book Bags

Children in classes 1 and 2 take their book bags home on Mondays and Thursdays. Below you will find a link to a leaflet which gives you a little more information about what books and activities your child will bring home and how you can support them. Please ensure that your child’s book bag is completed and in school every Monday and Friday to be changed.

Promoting Reading-First Steps

Maths Books

The children recieve Maths homework every Thursday based on what they have been learning in class that week. Please ensure that your child’s homework is completed and their Maths book returned to school by the following Tuesday.

Key Stage 1

Reading

We expect your child to read at home every night. Reading books should be returned as soon as your child has finished his/her reading book. Please ensure that you sign your child’s reading record book so that we know that your child has read to you.

Maths/Spellings/Sounds

Homework books will be sent out every Thursday and need to be returned to school by the following Tuesday. If your child does not return his/her homework on the allocated day, we will send a reminder out.

Book bags should be brought to school every day in Key Stage 1.

We appreciate all of the support which you give your children at home. If you have any questions concerning your child’s homework please feel free to make an appointment to speak to their teacher after school.
